Common questions about the Registry, our five-criteria scoring framework, and the asset acquisition process.
Rational Registry is a registry of rational domain assets. Domains are independently scored on five criteria: Signal, Scarcity, Recall, Utility, and Longevity. We apply formal economic theory to the valuation of domain names and maintain an audited inventory of assets that meet our evaluation criteria. This is a future framework for intangible asset economics. Read more on the About page.
No. Rational Registry is not an ICANN-accredited domain registrar and does not provide registration, renewal, transfer, or management services. We operate exclusively as a research platform and secondary marketplace. Domain registration must be arranged independently through an accredited registrar.
Assets are evaluated against the five criteria of the Rational Registry Evaluation Framework: Market Signal, Linguistic Scarcity, Recall Efficiency, Economic Utility, and Strategic Longevity. Only assets that achieve a composite score meeting our publication threshold are listed. Assets are not listed on the basis of commercial arrangement or listing fee.
Each asset is assigned a unique Registry ID (e.g., RR-3AE0-95E6) upon formal audit and listing. This identifier is the primary reference for all correspondence and transaction coordination. It also functions as the canonical record identifier for schema and SEO purposes.
Each criterion is scored on a ten-point integer scale. Scores of 6 to 7 indicate functional adequacy; 8 indicates material asset strength; 9 to 10 indicates exceptional or category-defining quality. The composite score is the arithmetic mean of the five criterion scores, expressed as a decimal. Full methodological details are published on the Methodology page.
Linguistic Scarcity is classified across six tiers, from most to least scarce: Ultra-Rare, Strategic, Abstract, Creative, Descriptive, and Generic. Each tier maps to a scarcity label: Ultra-Rare carries Maximum Scarcity; Strategic and Abstract carry High Scarcity; Creative and Descriptive carry Moderate Scarcity; Generic carries Low Scarcity. Full definitions are published on the Methodology page.
Scores are reviewed for internal consistency before publication. We do not employ external auditors. The transparency of our published methodology is the primary mechanism of accountability.
